Third Party Software Products
Dianne Reid, David Bennett, and Steve Thorpe, International AVS
Center

A few of the many commercial packages available in the AVS
environment as add-on applications are briefly described below. As
you become aware of other AVS packages, please forward this
information to the International AVS Center.

In the Volume 1, Issue 1 issue of AVS Network News, the following
packages were featured: Chemistry Viewer by Polygen/Molecular
Simulations, Crystal Viewer by Crystal Image Technologies, MAPLE V
by Waterloo Maple Software, and VBASE by the GEC-Marconi
Research Centre. These and other back issues of AVS Network News
are available via anonymous ftp to avs.ncsc.org:avs_net_news/*.

AVS-FLOW, AVS-FLOW/FEM, AVS-MODELER, and AVS-STRUCTURE

AVS-FLOW, available from ADAM NET LTD., is used to visualize CFD
results calculated by differential methods. Its features include 1)
real-time visualization and volume rendering, 2) batch process
function, which is useful to calculate and visualize transient state
problems, automatically including VTR recording, 3) easy
customization, 4) precise indication of calculated results near walls
and obstacles, and 5) good affinity for many CFD solvers.

AVS-FLOW/FEM is used with CFD results calculated by FEM. Its main
functions are the same as AVS-FLOW, and interfaces for the
following standard solvers are supported: FLUENT, FLUENT/BFC,
FIDAP, KIVAII, FLOW3D, STAR-CD, STREAM, HOTFLOW, etc.

AVS-MODELER is an AVS modeling system. This can be used to draw
simple solid figures within AVS.

AVS-STRUCTURE is a powerful post processor system for complex
structural analysis results, and was jointly developed with TOSHIBA
Corporation. Its features include 1) arbitrary sliced contour charts,
2) 3D iso-surface chart, 3) deformation charts, and modal charts, and
4) mode animation, transient analysis animation, and deformation
analysis animation. AVS-STRUCTURE supports ABAQUS and
NASTRAN data formats, in addition to its own. Other interfaces will
be supported as interests develop.

These four advanced visualization tools run on top of AVS, and are
all available from ADAM NET LTD. For more information please
contact them (in Japan) at 81-3-5802-2251.

InScape/AVS

Digital Image Design Incorporated and AVS, Inc. have created a
viewing module that makes full use of virtual reality concepts and
technology for practical, everyday data interpretation tasks.
InScape/AVS displays your data as if it were a physical scale model
sitting just inside your monitor. It does this by determining the
position of each of your eyes and creating the exact projection onto
the screen that would occur if the model were real. Simple stereo
viewing gives you some relative depth information as a result of
binocular disparity. InScape/AVS adds motion parallax, kinesthetic
feedback, and control over viewpoint - powerful depth cues that
combine to create a more solid and believable 3-D display than ever
was practical in the past. For more information please contact Digital
Image Design, Inc. (in the USA) at (212) 222-5236.

InteraView

InteraView by Intera is an interactive 3-D visualization system
which may be used to display reservoir simulation model input and
output data. It has been designed to interface efficiently with the
ECLIPSE 100, 200 and 300 reservoir simulators and, if required,
third party simulators. The system can accommodate both block
center and corner-point grid geometries, as well as Cartesian and
radical grid refinement and grid coarsening.

Interaview's interactive visualization facilities include: interactive
rotating, translating, zooming and panning of the reservoir; 3-D
lighting and perspective; transparency; hard copy and video.

The simulation oriented features include: display of input properties
and results; inclusion/exclusion of ijk or xyz sections; animation
through time and/or geometry; filtering display based on property
thresholds; calculation and animation of isosurfaces and contours;
arbitrary vertical exaggerations; options to separate the layers;
extensive color map editing; ternary diagrams; integration with 2-D
line graphics.

InteraView uses AVS as its underlying visualization toolkit. It is
available on all of the major UNIX workstations. For more
information please contact Intera (in the UK) at +44 0235 559595.

PAMAP GIS and AVS

PAMAP Technologies Corporation and AVS, Inc. have introduced the
first ever GIS with advanced visualization capability.

AVS will endow PAMAP GIS with superior visualization of 3-D data,
as well as the ability to combine GIS data with external data for
display purposes. The virtually unlimited flexibility in terms of
customization, and the incorporation of simple, object-oriented
graphical programming will revolutionize how GIS software will be
used. PAMAP GIS offers AVS the transparent links to both internal
and external databases, and the opportunity to access geo-referenced
data. For more information please contact PAMAP Technologies
Corporation (in the USA) at (604) 381-3838.
